Tick Prevention on Pets
Pets can get tick-borne diseases too, but a human cannot get a tick-borne disease from their pet.
Protect your pet
If you have an outdoor pet, give or apply a tick product at the recommended frequency. Talk to your veterinary clinic for recommended products. In general, products that contain permethrin (dog only), fipronil and amitraz are effective at killing ticks.
Check your pets
Do a daily tick check on your pet, especially if your yard has ticks. Get in the habit of checking your dog immediately after you visit (walk, hike, or camp) high-risk tick areas. If you find a tick, remove it. Petting or combing your animal from head to tail may help you discover unwanted hitchhikers.
