New York

Staten Island, NY

With increasing incidences of locally acquired cases of Lyme disease on Staten Island, it is critical to understand the ecological characteristics of this urban landscape that may mediate tick abundances, the distribution of tick-borne disease risk, and human-tick contacts.

Our research has 2 main components
  • Studying the natural transmission and the risk of exposure to ticks in public parks on Staten Island.
  • Understanding where and how are people getting exposed to ticks. This study will aid in designing control measures tailored to Staten Island and the study of cost-effectiveness of potential interventions to reduce health risks.
The Tick App team at Columbia University is seeking partnership with Health Departments in the Northeast region

This year, we are aiming to partner with Health Departments across the Northeast region to promote The Tick App and, in turn, receive tick encounter data aggregated at a zip code level. This data would help the recipient Health Department identify tick risk in their area of influence.

If you are interested and would like to partner with us, please contact Maria Diuk-Wasser at mad2256@columbia.edu.
